Tanglewood is growing! We are looking for a full-time (40 hours/week) Marketing/Communications professional to lead us into the future.

Summary: This position, under the supervision of the Executive Director, will require an enthusiastic, energetic, knowledgeable, flexible, organized person with superior marketing, people and computer skills.

The employee will:

  • Be our first full-time marketing professional and will be integral in marketing our Canopy Walkway project as well as Tanglewood as a whole.
  • Maintain website and relevant social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others.
  • Develop flyers, save the dates, tickets, and contact media and membership for fundraisers and other events.
  • Send weekly email blasts and press releases and maintain accurate and up to date email distribution lists.
  • Develop/update and coordinate mailing of the quarterly newsletter and annual report. Promote Tanglewood Nature Center to the community through TV, newspaper and public appearances.
  • Design needed signage and work with sign vendors in cooperation with staff.
  • Act as the representative at regional tourism gatherings, including but not limited to, the Chemung Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
  • Coordinate calendar of marketing events based on quarterly and annual initiatives.
  • Serve as staff specialist on relevant committees including Marketing, Membership, Signage and Fundraising Committees.
  • Conduct research/surveys to provide ideas and suggestions for marketing and programming initiatives, report on social media usage, website traffic and other key initiatives.

Additional duties will include attending monthly Board and committee meetings and assisting with special events and activities during the course of the year.

Education required: BS/BA preferably in marketing/communications with interest in non-profits and nature. Associate's or equivalent work experience will be considered.

Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge of traditional and digital marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing and associated software use
  • Experience using data analytics software for research
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Must be a team-player and have a passion for our mission

Hours/Salary for Position: 40 hours/week, $45,000-$47,000/year. Sick/vacation/health insurance/personal time after 90 days.

Monday-Friday schedule with the ability to work Saturdays as part of staff rotating coverage and/or for special events.

Nature Center and Museum hours: OPEN Tuesday-Friday, 9am-4pm, and Saturday 10am-4pm. CLOSED Sunday-Monday. Trails are open dawn to dusk year-round.
