Salary: $24,000/year

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Friends of the Chemung River Watershed, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the Chemung River, its tributaries and riverside trails in Steuben and Chemung counties in New York and Bradford County in Pennsylvania. The chosen applicant will be responsible for management, financial development and operational oversight under the direction of the board of directors in a manner consistent with the organization’s mission and goals.


EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MANAGEMENT AND PLANNING RESPONSIBILITIES:


·        Identify and create strategic communication and fund-raising campaigns that support River Friends policy, priorities, and mission. Do twice-yearly fund-raising letter campaigns in partnership with fund raising board partner.

·        Strengthen and promote River Friends’ brand to bring attention to our work and gain influence with funding sources and decision makers.

·        Collaborate on the development and submission of grant proposals and reports, manage grant budgets, and create and implement plans to meet all grant deliverables.

·        Manage and maintain the office and related equipment and supplies as well as the stock and equipment used in the activities of the River Friends.

·        Maintain financial reports and bank accounts. Work with board treasurer and bookkeeper to complete and pay worker’s compensation and required non-profit state and federal reports. Provide monthly financial reports to the board and prepare the annual budget and the annual report.

·        Develop and lead fund raising hikes, paddle trips and other eco-recreation events on our rivers and trails.

·        Provide technical assistance, advice and support to organizations, municipalities and individuals working to improve our waterways.

·        Coordinate content development and manage the website, newsletters, blog and social media platforms.

·        Work with board members and volunteers to do community outreach/feedback about River Friends at health, environmental and water safety events.

·        Communicate and advocate with elected officials and policy makers regarding laws, programs and changes that affect the river and our mission. Participate in community forums and committees concerning river planning, protection and development. Attend selected local government meetings and planning sessions regarding river issues. Work with elected officials and policy makers to promote our mission and our rivers. Work with Upper Susquehanna Coalition and other river protection organizations to meet our mission.

·        Be the eyes and ears on the rivers and trails. Visit boat launches, river access sites and trails to meet and talk with users, find out what they like or dislike and what changes or improvements they would like to see. Seek same feedback during public events, environmental fairs and other programs involving the environment and outdoor recreation. Make officials aware of damages, problems or safety issues on rivers, trails and boat launches.

·        Develop and lead litter and illegal dumping cleanups at boat launches and river trails. Maintain and monitor trail cameras at the three boat launches. Work with regional law enforcement to reduce dumping and other illegal and unsafe activities at boat launches.

·        Recruit, maintain, train and use volunteers for River Friends projects and programs. Help recruit and train new Board members.

·        Use regional news media, social media and other promotional material to promote and educate the public about our programs and events, fund raising and river related issues.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and throughout the duration of employment.

Applicant must have a dependable vehicle. Miles driven in support of River Friends activities will be reimbursed at the recognized federal reimbursement rate.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


a. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related field


b. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in a closely related field and 2 years of full time paid experience or its part time equivalent in a closely related field.


c. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a.) and (b.).
