Hat Making family program - a partnership with CCHS

CCHS and Tanglewood Nature Center are partnering to present a hat making program and workshop that combines history and nature! In the late 1800s, it was fashionable to wear hats piled high with feathers and taxidermy birds. As rare bird species plummeted close to extinction, conservationists - especially women - began forming groups like the Audubon Society to end the killing of birds for fashion. Learn about the controversy and make your own fancy 19th century hat (without dead birds). Meet some of Tanglewood's birds and learn more about modern conservation.

Friday, July 29th at 10am. This event is held at the Chemung County Historical Society. Free and open to the public. Space is limited! Reserve a spot by calling 607-734-4167 ext. 205. All ages welcome.

This activity is made possible in part by the QuickARTS grant program administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes Inc.
