Winter Challenge Wednesday! week four: the energy challenge

  • 25 Feb 2015
  • 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM
  • Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum

A free program open to all ages!

Meet inside the nature center with Tricia, then head out for a themed hike that will get your heart pumping. The goal is to get outside and observe a world that we are all to often oblivious to, as we spend the winter rushing to and from heated buildings and cars.

Week Four: the energy challenge (concept challenge)

  •
  • The idea of this session is to understand the blance winter-active animals must find between conserving energy, finding food, and staying warm. Tricia will have a game to simulate this challenge, and players will have bouts of exercise, rest, and yes - snacks
  • This session will hopefully bring together the themes of our previous hikes as the concept of energy balance can be applied to the animals that are active here, and those who migrate or go dormant. This can even include plants!

This hike is led by Tricia, a Tanglewood volunteer with extensive environmental education experience. She has worked as a naturalist at Friends of the Five Rivers in Elmar, NY and at the Klamath Bird Observatory in Ashland, OR.
