Winter Challenge Wednesday! week one: who's out there?

  • 04 Feb 2015
  • 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM
  • Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum

A free program open to all ages!

Meet inside the nature center with Tricia, then head out for a themed hike that will get your heart pumping. The goal is to get outside and observe a world that we are all to often oblivious to, as we spend the winter rushing to and from heated buildings and cars.

Week One: Who's still active? (concept challenge)

  • During this session our goal will be to find evidence that many animals are still out and about, despite the cold.
  • Each sign may give us clues about what kinds of animals are still active, but more importantly, we might be able to determine what the animal was doing when it left that sign (looking for food, taking shelter, etc.)
  • As we walk we may also discuss the animals are no longer active. How do some animals manage to avoid going out in the bitter cold?

This hike is led by Tricia, a Tanglewood volunteer with extensive environmental education experience. She has worked as a naturalist at Friends of the Five Rivers in Elmar, NY and at the Klamath Bird Observatory in Ashland, OR.
