Philosophically speaking...what do children learn at an outdoor school?

Learning by doing is an effective way to expand the school curriculum by including the whole outdoors. Children who are not prone to show their superiority in the classroom often shine in the discovery environment of the outdoors. Academics via lecture and reading are efficient time-wise, but guided discovery of facts and principles are an intense manner of allowing a child to learn at his or her own style and pace.

One cannot guarantee exactly what a student will or will not learn in an outdoor classroom, but one can direct the students to be successful in acquiring knowledge and/or skills in multidisciplinary ways. The objective is to give a child an experience with educational value and to make the experience meaningful and transferable into everyday life skills.
