Each program is based around a central theme with the use of scientific principles, hands-on exploration whenever possible and use of live animals!

Guaranteed to delight both students and adults alike, these programs can be integrated into classroom curriculum or act alone as a "special."

Some programs have been designed to complement seasonal phenomena such as fall foliage, winter and snow and spring babies.

Program Fees:

$65.00/program for up to 20 kids, $3.00 each additional child- IN CLASSROOM (In-class programs usually last one hour).

Our Programs Include:

Pond Scoops
What child doesn't like the water and wonder what is in it?  Each child will explore the teaching pond at Gleason Meadows to see how animals survive in a wet world.  Enrichment activities will be provided and the wonders of the water worlds of Chemung County will delight all.

Plants, Trees, You and Me
Children will learn about the importance of plants in our natural world.  Basic parts of a plant will be learned through a fun plant craft.  We may even just sample some of the yummy parts of plants!

Animals that Hatch
Students will use the discovery method to recognize and appreciate the life histories and ecology of animals that hatch. They will observe and manipulate different types of eggs to determine similarities and differences; and how egg laying animals overcome ecological barriers to be successful.

Incredible Insects and Spiders
An interactive program using live animal models to introduce students to the diversity of the largest phyla of animals - The Arthropods. Taxonomy of classification of these animals will emphasize their importance in the food webs and ecosystems they inhabit. In appropriate weather, organisms will be collected and identified.

Amphibian and Reptile Antics
Students will be shown the similarities and differences between some common reptiles and amphibians using live specimens. Using the discovery method, the students will determine how these animals use their unique characteristics to survive in the environment.

Animal Coverings
Learn what animals are covered with- with fur, feathers, scales, skin- by feeling live animals and other touchables.  We will also learn why animal coverings are important and explore some of the more “unique” coverings in the animal world.

Animal Movement
Animals have many ways to get from place to place.  Flying, walking, hopping, climbing, slithering…!  We will look at animal locomotion and play some fun movement games.  This class is great for the fall/summer so it can be held it outdoors in the schoolyard.
